Bill C-37 that passed on 17 April 2008 and finally came into effect on 17 April 2009 is a very interesting amendment to the Canadian Citizenship Act. This document gives Canadian citizenship to those who lost or never had it, due to outdated provisions in existing and former legislation. The government believes that this could restore citizenship of hundreds of thousands unsuspecting foreigners. The biggest part (over 240.000) is believed to be in America, and these are just people born from 1947 to 1977. This amendment not only automatically restores Canadian nationality to many people that were forced to renounce it when they became citizens of another country, but also grants citizenship to their children. After 1947 there were actually numerous problems with the Citizenship Act that led to mistakes and loss of citizenship. The new amendment doesn't make the people Canadian citizens instantly, they still have to apply for citizenship. It means that people who don't want to change nationality don't need to solve problems with being recognized as Canadian citizen. People who want to keep their other nationality can always renounce their new citizenship.

If we look into history the Canadian Citizenship Act took effect on 1 January 1947 and stated that anyone (with the exception of diplomat children) born in Canada from 1947 onwards acquired Canadian citizenship at birth. In 1977 the Canadian nationality law was revisited, when the new Citizenship Act came into force. From this date the Canadians who were born outside the country received citizenship and Canada also fully accepted multiple citizenship. However the people who lost their citizenship before that date did not automatically have it restored until 17 April 2009 when Bill C-37 became law. The group of activists that played an important role in the passing of this bill consisted mostly of people born in the thirty year long span from 1947 to 1977.

The fight for this amendment and the restoration was started by a group of people who lost their citizenship rights due to various mostly unfair reasons. The biggest part are Canadians who were born in U.S. hospitals from 1947 to 1977. During this time if a family crossed the border and the child was born in the U.S. and not registered with the government, the child was not recognized as Canadian. Also members of the families of Canadian servicemen lost their citizenship if they stayed out of the country for a decade or more. There were also the grandchildren of the Canadian Mennonites who moved to Mexico in the 1920s to the 1960s. When these grandchildren tried to return to Canada their nationality was classified as unclear. Despite the fact that some of these cases were reviewed for years, this group of people with unclear nationality became more active in the last few years. One of the reasons was that new U.S. rules requiring passports for travel between Canada and the U.S. uncovered very large numbers of people who reported that they have Canadian citizenship, but were not officially confirmed citizens of Canada.

Retirement at Folly Beach is an excellent option.  Since ocean property values are still significantly lower in comparison to the rest of the coastal country, many people from out of state are finding it an affordable opportunity to live at the beach.  We have historic, downtown Charleston only minutes away.  Make a quick excursion into town for the afternoon exploring all of the history that this wonderful city has to offer.  There are several (if not dozens) of award-winning restaurants that have a lowcountry flair, available to satisfy any palate.  Charleston has great shopping, parks, carriage tours, theaters, art exhibits, and a great nightlife.  Enjoy the outdoors?  Folly Beach has chartered inshore and offshore fishing tours, an avid kayak and surfing community, and plenty of shells for the beachcombing enthusiast.  All in all, Folly Beach is a great place to live.  Long walks at the beach in the evenings with your toes in the sand seem to be about as relaxing as one can get.  Come see why so many call Folly Beach, home!

In Florida, it could also be any of a number of escaped (feral) domestic species, such as finches. You did not say how small the bird is. An escaped pet would be the most likely bird to eat out of your hand.

It would also help you decide which parrot cage is more suitable and which bird toys are more likely to keep your bird busy and entertained.

The main species of parrots are:

Large-sized Parrots:

Amazon parrots - medium to large in size. They are mainly green colored with patches of yellow, red, and blue on their tail, wings, and head. They often chatter when there are strangers around and possess very loud voices. The older male Amazons like the hawk-headed parrots can be aggressive.

Cockatoos - compared to Amazons - most of these are big. They are extremely intelligent, sensitive, and nervous birds. They possess erect crests that is lowered and raised at will. They may look cuddly and cute, but adult cockatoos can inflict painful bites if they are not properly trained. Cockatoos demand and require constant attention and are difficult to take care of.

African Gray Parrots are medium to large in size. They are overly sensitive but very intelligent birds. When strangers are around, they are very quiet, however, they can be extremely loud but do not create noise nuisance. Hand-reared parrots are very prone to feather plucking.

Macaws are the largest sized parrot species. The smaller macaws, like Hahn's and the yellow-collared, make good pets, but are noisy. They are active, inquisitive and often very mischievous parrots. They can learn to talk and can be very chatty. Their powerful beaks can damage many items around the house, including furniture and can even crush nuts. They are not very suitable for homes with young children. Large Macaws may also require more space instead of just a bird cage.

If you have large birds, such as the above-mentioned as pets, one should go for a large parrot cage. This should have a bar spacing of one or more inches as inappropriate spacing can result in injury to the bird.

Medium sized Parrots:

Conures are found in South Africa and are very confident and active birds. Sun yellow and bright orange conures, and blue-crowned and Patagonian conures have very loud and piercing voices. They are extremely curious, but very entertaining too. They can talk but possess squeaky thin voices when they try to emulate human speech. Conures are happy to sleep in roosting boxes placed inside the bird cage.

If you have these medium-sized birds, as pets, you should go for parrot cages which have a bar spacing of a half-inch to 5/8 inch.

Small-sized Parrots:

Parakeets are mostly found in Australia and Asia and are leaf-green colored, and are ground-feeders, and spend most of the time on the bird cage floor. Unlike other parrot species, they are quiet birds, although they are very active and social creatures. They live in a large flock and are usually kept as a flock in an aviary. Parakeets are independent birds and do not mix or bond well with humans. They respond to training but are poor mimics and imitators of human voices and speech.

Lovebirds are active and small parrots with short tails and come from Africa. They are usually kept as pets in pairs, as they rarely bond with human beings as many other parrot species do. They emit shrill sounds and can voice calls at a high volume, but they are unable to copy or imitate human speech. Lovebirds are mostly kept in an aviary, or as a pair in a bird cage, instead of in the company of other birds.

Cockatiels and budgies are the commonest parrot-like birds, and they are from Australia. Budgies are bright green in color with a fine scale-like pattern of white and black markings, but now they come in a variety of myriad colors due to selective breeding over generations. Budgies are easy to keep as pets, but require lots of attention and time with its owner/keeper if they are kept alone. They can talk and learn many phrases and words and make sounds in small, squeaky voices. Budgies are very busy and active birds. Cockatiels are large birds and they are good pets. They are naturally gray with some white on their wings, and orange-yellow patches on their head. They can learn to talk but are loud with harsh voices. They are highly busy and active birds and can be easily taught to obey some commands and requests.

If you have a small parrot such as one of the above-mentioned, you probably require one of the medium sized parrot cages having a half-inch or less bar spacing. One should always get as big a parrot cage as possible as long as he takes care of choosing one with an appropiate bar spacing and orientation.

As with most other birds, parrots enjoy bird toys as they are not just fun but neccessary for all species of parrots, large or small. These toys help keep their minds challenged, their beaks busy and keep them entertained. So make sure to purchase an array of different bird toys for your parrot to enjoy.

If the old axiom "you are what you eat" is right, then why not eat a vibrant assortment of foods? Our eye is naturally attracted to deep green of landscapes and the rich red of roses, then why do we eat a mottled gray colored diet? French fries, hamburger, and an artificially flavored drink. Blue or dark purple plant foods such as blueberries, blackberries, grapes, or plums also have anticancer qualities. They contain a pigment called anthocyanin as well as vitamin C, fiber, flavonoids, and antioxidants.

Orange and yellow foods are very unique in their properties. These types of foods actually reduce the effects of aging. They promote healthy eyes, joints, and work with calcium to create strong bones. So make sure to have a variety of apricots, carrots, peaches, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes to your diet.

Also look for white (mushrooms, onions), pink (grapefruit), black (black beans), and dark red (kidney beans) colors.

Filling your life with all these colorful, tasty fruits and vegetables will spice up your life in a healthy way. Even with all this smart eating, we sometimes miss out on needed nutrients, because let's face it, it's hard to fit in all these colors and the other food groups (also important, don't forget about them!) on a daily basis. Naomi, What you are talking about is more than likely, the Box Elder Beetle or bug.. The variety we have out west however are a dark with red stripping on the wing plates. Don't know where you're at, but it may be a different blue color due to the locale of the insect. But I'm sure that it is the box elder beetle. We have them in the northwest and they inhabit the fir trees, only to fly down and crawl all over the sunniest side of the house. And they do find ways to get into the house through cracks and such. Outstanding mountain scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the most popular units of the National Park System. The Blue Ridge Mountains favorite drive winds its way 469 miles through mountain meadows and past seemingly endless visitas. Split-rail fences, old farmsteads and historic structures complement spectacular views of distant mountains and neighboring valleys.

Naturally, there is no better way to view this fall scenery then on a motorcycle. Since I live at the base of the Grandfather Mountain take my advice. Before departing on a motorcycle make sure you listen to the weather forcast. Mountain tops are much cooler than the valley's below. Also, make sure to take along your motorcycle apparel even on a hot day. You never know when you are going to have a breakdown and at sundown it gets cold.

The Blue Ridge Parkway connects the Shenandoah National Park near Waynesboro, Va (Milepost 0) with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, NC (Milepost 469). If you would like to ride sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway you can find entrances and exits at all major federal and state highways. At each parkway entrance a directional sign indicates north or south. North toward the north end of the Parkway, leads to Shenandoh National Park. South, toward the south end of the Parkway, leads to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Asheville and Boone, NC along with Roanoke, Va are the largest cities along the route. In Virginia, Interstates 64, 81 and 77 all have directions for accessing the Parkway. The same is true for Interstates 40 and 26 in North Carolina. Their are facilities, including picnic areas, campgrounds, visitor centers, and concessions. Facilities are in full operation.

Some more tidbits good to know about the Blue Ridge Parkway is that the Parkway Headquarters is at Milepost 382. The park information line is 828-298-0398 and it provides the most up to date information on facilities, activities, and road closures.
