1) Life in the Navy I guess isn't too different than life in any other branch. The day you enter bootcamp the instructor's job is to break down individualism to reform the division into a single entitiy if you will. Everyday life in the states involves 8 hour work shifts, 3 in all, and extra duty assignments which include various adminstrative and guard work. Life on the seas is much different, but I myself am not very familiar with due to no on-ship experiences. Overall you learn a new appreciation for those who serve in combat zones, and those who make a career out of the military. As for myself, it just wasn't for me.

2) Honestly I feel hurt, angered, and even confused about people who burn the flag or refuse to stand for the pledge. But at the same time I remember, they can do these things for one reason...the men and women who have fought and died for this nation, whethere here at home or in some god-forsaken wasteland.

3) September 11 left more questions than answers, and I am one of many who feel that the current government is still hiding something from that day. What our government call "War on Terrorism" has been misused and abused in my eyes. We did find somewhat solid evidence linking Al Quaida and the Taliban to 9/11, however we overstepped our boundries through the invasion of Iraq with nothing to go by but the words of Operative "Curveball" who was a turncoat from Desert Storm. His intel from a decade ago was no longer viable, therefore used to give false pretenses for a war, which I feel, has turned into a new Cold War. We're not fighting terrorism if we invade a nation that has not attacked us or our allies, we're commiting it. This is how the world sees it, why can't we?

Overall my experience in the navy was an eye opener. There are many things that need to be improved, but our servicemen and women give their all to protect their country.

This is the land of the free because of the brave.

The Bedford flag may be the oldest battle flag of the American Revolution still in existence today. According to various historians out there, the flag was carried by the "Bedford Minuteman Company" and was likely flown at the North Bridge in Concord, State of Massachusetts, in 1775.

Now, the date and origin of the Bedford flag remains unknown till this day. However, evidence, of both a physical and historical nature, are consistent with a date that takes us back, more than 300 years ago, to the early 1700s.

At a specific point in time, about 300 years ago, and because of its similarity to another flag made for another Massachusetts cavalry in the 17th century, various historians thought that the Bedford flag could have been that particular flag. Science, however, excluded this possibility because "spectroscopic analysis" of the paint used on the emblem of the Bedford flag affirmed that this type of paint did not exist till 1704.

There is no evidence mentioning any such flag flown by either side. The only exception is that of Lieutenant Barker of the British expedition to Concord, who observed a pole with a cap and an unknown flag flying from it, on a hill in front of Concord center. British troops ended up destroying both the pole and flag, hours before Bedford's men arrived outside Concord, a substantial amount of miles to the west of the hill.

Also, the first mentioning of the "Bedford Flag" was not till 1875, at the Centennial festivities...

Whatever the story and history of the Bedford flag may be, it's still on display at the Bedford Free Public Library in Bedford, Massachusetts.

Now, the Bedford flag is made of "crimson silk damask" with the distinct design of the flag painted on the material. The image was made slightly different on the two sides of the flag, with the Latin motto "Vince Aut Morire," meaning "conquer or die," reading from the top to the bottom on one side of the flag, and vice versa on the other side of the Bedford flag.

Also, the sword, which appears behind the motto on one side of the Bedford flag, appears in front of it on the other side.

Now and then an event is so powerful that every detail becomes permanently etched into the minds of the people who experienced it, and every generation to come will be told the story. One such moment began on the quiet morning of September 11, 2001.

People across the United States woke up that morning and heard the terrifying news about commercial airliners being hijacked. Four planes were taken over by Al-Qaeda terrorists: American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77 and United Airlines Flight 93. Although no one knew the hijackers' demands, it wouldn't be long until the devastating truth behind their mission was revealed.

At 8:48am, American Airlines Flight 11 was flown directly into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Less than twenty minutes later, United Airlines Flight 175 struck the south tower. The ferocity of the impacts produced tremendous explosions and weakened the buildings so thoroughly that they both collapsed less than two hours after being hit.

By 9:43am the terrorists had struck again, and this time their target was the Pentagon. American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building and demolished one of its five sides. The world watched on, terrified at what had happened and what may yet be to come. The White House was evacuated, all flights were cancelled and people across the world stopped whatever they were doing to witness these events unfold.

A final plane remained under the terrorist's control - United Airlines Flight 93. No one was sure what their target was, but there was much speculation that the plane was either being taken towards the White House or Camp David. The passengers of this flight heard about the fate of the other planes, and all of the innocent people who were killed in that morning's tragedies. They decided to take a stand.

Some of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 called loved ones and told them that their plane had been hijacked. They said tearful goodbyes and told family members that they loved them. When the time came, the brave victims fought back. They attacked the terrorists who held them captive, and struggled for control of the plane.

Flight 93 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. There were no survivors, but the bold actions of the passengers helped prevent further destruction and loss of life. They will forever be mourned and honored as heroes.

Immediately, people who were near the attack sites sprang into action. Firefighters rushed into buildings to put out the flames and bring people safely outside. Rescue workers sorted through debris for days in the hopes of finding survivors. People all over the nation stood in line for hours to donate blood for the victims who were injured that morning. In the wake of the worst attack on American soil, the country banded together to help each other and grieve over our losses.

On December 18th, 2001, an amendment was made to the United States Code to memorialize September 11 as Patriot Day. The proclamation called for all local governments to recognize the day, flags to be flown at half-staff and the people of America to observe a moment of silence for the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that morning.

September 11th is a day that will never be forgotten. We will remember it for the tragedies we witnessed, the devastating loss of innocent lives and the way it united an entire country. People everywhere felt a renewed sense of pride and patriotism for their homeland, and they were reminded about the importance of friends and family who so deeply enrich our lives.
