Organic (in biology/chemistry terms, not in new-agey fad-type terms) = carbon based.

The four basic biological molecules that make up all living things are proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. All of these are carbon based and therefore organic.

Most people are aware of the benefits of organic food, which is food grown without chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Nutrient content is much richer. Although supermarket food looks good, generally, its nutrient content is very poor.

If organic food is good for people, is it also good for dogs?

A resounding YES, is the answer to that...

But!

There's always a but isn't there?

You need to look at the whole picture.

If you are buying the commercial organic dog food, then you really aren't getting what you're paying for.

Why not?

If you look at what goes into commercial dog food, the benefits that the organic origins give to the food are swamped by all the other chemicals.

Let's look at the meat content of dog food first. The source for the bulk of commercial pet food comes from rendering plants. These take the waste from slaughter houses (heads, hooves, intestines, etc), road kill, euthanised pets from vets and zoos and dead animals from farms. If the slaughter house rejects come from some organic farms, that's helpful. But the overall mix is far from organic.

Even if the protein comes from organic waste meat, is that meat certified organic, or has the supplier just put an organic label on the packet to lure in unsuspecting buyers?

So the end product should be certified organic dog food. Not just one ingredient.

Now lets look at the dried food. Meat (or more likely meat by-products, the end product from rendering plants) is kept indefinitely at room temperature. The only way you can do this is by adding a strong preservative.

As there are no laws governing the quality of dog food in most countries, any preservative can be used. Even those considered unfit for consumption. Such as ethoxyquin. And formaldehyde.

Both these preservatives cause huge health problems simply by being in contact with them. Imagine what it does to your dog's health if he consumes them, and on a regular basis.

That alone makes the idea of organic dog food of little importance.

Even when the label on the packet proudly proclaims that no preservatives have been added, they are simply stating that they haven't added preservatives. The rendering plant may have done it for them.

Logic tells you that meat cannot be kept indefinitely at room temperature any other way.

Because the rendering plants boil the 'food' for long periods at high pressures, there is little nutrient content left.

To address this shortfall, isolated and synthetic nutrients are added. Neither humans nor dogs can utilise isolated and synthetic nutrients. These should come from the food, in a complex and balanced form.

I suggest that organic dog food is no different from any other commercial pet food.

As you will have noticed, nouns vary depending on the type and usage. Nouns can be used in sentences as a subject, a subject complement, an indirect object, a direct object, an object complement, an adjective, an adverb, or an appositive. This article shows some of the uses and types of nouns.

Plural Nouns

Many nouns are changed from the singular form into the plural form to suggest a number of two or more with the addition of "s" or "es." Other nouns of the singular form can be turned into the plural form by changing the last letter of the word before affixing "s." There are varied rules for different words. Some words that end in the letter F will be changed into the plural form by erasing the "f" and appending "ves". Words that end in "y" turn into plural by removing of the "y" and the addition of "ies."

you're not as funny as you think

Take a hike through a meadow in full bloom and chances are you'll wish you could recreate a smaller version in your own yard. The colors and varieties of flowers and grasses are totally random, yet about as close to landscaped perfection that you'll ever find. Whether you have a large expanse or a small area, a wildflower garden can be a unique addition to your landscaping plan.

The native plants are hardy and once established require little care, fertilizer or watering. In a true wildflower garden, the flowers are planted close together, at least one per square foot of dirt. This allows them to provide shelter for one another, conserve water, and helps to eliminate weeds. The brightly colored flowers attract a variety of birds and butterflies and can provide a taste of wilderness even in the most urban setting,

Once a wildflower garden is fully established, you can sit back and enjoy, but the real effort comes with the soil preparation and maintenance in the first two or three years. Here is a guide to the successful planning and planting of your own wildflower meadow.

Designing Your Garden:

Plant a combination of wildflowers and native grasses. The most common complaint from new gardeners is that the garden bloomed beautifully the first year and proceeded to get sparser in subsequent years, accompanied by a high concentration of weeds. This is often the result of choosing a seed mixture consisting of non-native annuals instead of true native, perennial wildflowers and grasses. With the latter species, you shouldn't expect blooms until the third year.

When choosing plants, use a combination of Spring and late bloomers, as well as a mixture of tall and low growing species.

Flowers that attract birds or butterflies, include Blazing stars, coneflowers, asters, silphiums and sunflowers. If deer are a problem in your area, choose a combination of deer resistant seeds such as lavender hyssop, nodding wild onion, coreopsis, purple clover, purple coneflower and meadow rose.

Choose a sunny location with good air circulation. Your wildflowers will need a minimum of one half day of full sun to really thrive. Steep north-facing slopes tend to be sheltered from the sun and are not the best candidates for meadows, but do well with ferns or woodland wildflowers.

Soil & Site Preparation:

Determine your soil type, adding to it if needed. For instance, a sandy or clay type soil will benefit from added organic matter which breaks up heavy soils, improving ability to absorb water and provides air flow to the roots. The other effective method for improving poor soil is to plant a "green manure crop" such as buckwheat. Let it grow for a year and plow it under. The roots will draw up the nutrients from the lower soil and convert them into organic matter.

In addition to proper growing conditions and good soil, the most important factor in growing a successful wildflower garden is having a smooth, surface, free of weeds. The first step is to remove any existing vegetation is by smothering, cultivating, herbiciding or a combination of these.

On smaller areas, smothering is an effective method of eliminating weeds. Cover the planting area with dark plastic, tarps, old carpeting, plywood or a thick layer of leaves for a complete growing season. Adding a layer of newspaper before covering will enrich the soil even more. As the paper decomposes, worms will move in, adding even more nutrients.

A broad spectrum, non-persistent herbicide will also do the trick, especially on larger areas. The third alternative is to cultivate the area using a rototiller or tractor.

Planting:

Once you have prepared your site, purchase your seeds from a reliable grower. On areas less than one acre, the seeds can be dispersed by hand, by mixing with a lightweight material such as vermiculite, peat moss or sawdust. For a 1000 square foot planting, combine one bushel basket of this material, dampened slightly, with your seed. Take half the mixture and spread across the area. When spreading the second half, walk perpendicular to your first spreading. If the soil is dry, proceed to roll the area. If it is wet, then wait until it dries slightly to avoid compacting the soil.

As you all know, Global Warming not only lead to tremendous increase in temperature, but also raises the sea level. Of Course Global Warming can't be stopped, but steps can be taken to prevent Global warming from getting worse. So what can you do? Drive electric power vehicles or use biofuel instead of traditional fuel, use renewable energy which does not emit much carbon, use fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs and above all plant different varieties of plants.

Now how does plants help in Global warming? It helps to slow down the effect of Global warming by reducing the carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. So plant as much plants as possible so that the world will get some relief from the adverse effect of Global Warming.

With water scarcity how can we plant plants. The best advice is to plant herbaceous perennials because they live for many years, do not require maintenance like other types of plants, do not require much water, have a ornamental appeal and above all the plants help to mitigate Global Warming by absorbing the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
