Naomi, What you are talking about is more than likely, the Box Elder Beetle or bug.. The variety we have out west however are a dark with red stripping on the wing plates. Don't know where you're at, but it may be a different blue color due to the locale of the insect. But I'm sure that it is the box elder beetle. We have them in the northwest and they inhabit the fir trees, only to fly down and crawl all over the sunniest side of the house. And they do find ways to get into the house through cracks and such. Outstanding mountain scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the most popular units of the National Park System. The Blue Ridge Mountains favorite drive winds its way 469 miles through mountain meadows and past seemingly endless visitas. Split-rail fences, old farmsteads and historic structures complement spectacular views of distant mountains and neighboring valleys.

Naturally, there is no better way to view this fall scenery then on a motorcycle. Since I live at the base of the Grandfather Mountain take my advice. Before departing on a motorcycle make sure you listen to the weather forcast. Mountain tops are much cooler than the valley's below. Also, make sure to take along your motorcycle apparel even on a hot day. You never know when you are going to have a breakdown and at sundown it gets cold.

The Blue Ridge Parkway connects the Shenandoah National Park near Waynesboro, Va (Milepost 0) with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, NC (Milepost 469). If you would like to ride sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway you can find entrances and exits at all major federal and state highways. At each parkway entrance a directional sign indicates north or south. North toward the north end of the Parkway, leads to Shenandoh National Park. South, toward the south end of the Parkway, leads to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Asheville and Boone, NC along with Roanoke, Va are the largest cities along the route. In Virginia, Interstates 64, 81 and 77 all have directions for accessing the Parkway. The same is true for Interstates 40 and 26 in North Carolina. Their are facilities, including picnic areas, campgrounds, visitor centers, and concessions. Facilities are in full operation.

Some more tidbits good to know about the Blue Ridge Parkway is that the Parkway Headquarters is at Milepost 382. Their mailing address should you need it is 199 Hemphill Knob Road, Asheville, NC 28803-8686. Their phone number is 828-271-4779. The park information line is 828-298-0398 and it provides the most up to date information on facilities, activities, and road closures.

The fourth quarter is typically a time retailer's look forward to with such glee that even a child would be hard pressed to match their level of expectancy. This is, after all, the time of presents, candy, costumes, decorations, ornaments and lavish meals. Children know Santa is coming to town and retailers know parents are. In-fact retailers are so anxious to begin this cycle of profits; they are often accused of putting out holiday items too early, the infamous "Christmas creep". However, last year retail was hit hard by the recession; today the economy looks much the same and retail must adapt.

This will be the second holiday season celebrated under our current recession and the retail sector carries no illusions about that. According to a recent survey released by Hay Group, 72% of retailers predict sales this year will be equal to or less than sales last year and 57% are planning on reducing staff levels this holiday season. In comparison, last year 60% of retailers expected an increase in sales and only 29% decreased staffing levels. While these numbers are obviously negative, they are also prudent, reflecting a necessary change in mindset rather than an unfortunate change in the economy. Additionally, retail is adopting new promotional strategies to better fit the current economy. 43% of respondents plan on "running more promotions and/or deeper discounts" this holiday season and another 43% plan to run promotions continuously from now till new years. This reflects a shift in focus from last year, when 45% percent of retailers ran most of their promotions on Black Friday (this year only 35% will), giving people more time to save up paychecks before making purchases. These changes may already be having a positive impact on retails outlook. According to Fitch Ratings:

"Many companies across Fitch's U.S. retail coverage have been managing inventory positions well. Gross margins have rebounded for those companies in the discretionary categories that were hit particularly hard during the 2008 holiday period. This, combined with strong cash flow management and the resolutions of liquidity issues for several companies, has resulted in an improved overall credit outlook".

Though this may not be the holiday season of our dreams, it will certainly be a reality we are more equipped to cope with. Through tempering sales predictions, cutting overhead costs and altering promotional activities, retailers are becoming leaner and more efficient. Furthermore, in this current market where nearly 50% of net leases are traded as retail, should credit scores and sales improve, the only thing that may be going down are cap rates.

The Castle

Lincoln Castle was built on a site that was previously occupied by the Romans. Just after the battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror began building the castle in 1068.

The castle was used for 900 years as a court and prison with many people being executed on the ramparts.

Original features still remain and visitors get great views of the Cathedral, the city and the surrounding countryside from the wall walks.

Lincoln Castle is situated in the North centre of Lincoln. The nearest parking facilities can be found at The Lawn Visitor Centre offer the nearest parking with other places in Union Road, Lincoln and Westgate Carpark, Westgate.

The Museum of Life.

The Cathedral

Looking at the West front of Lincoln's fine Cathedral Church of St.Mary, past the pageant of ancient buildings outside the castle walls, the view of its historic soaring towers is awesome. This is the cathedral which John Ruskin called " the most precious piece of architecture in the British isles" in this Ruskin was right, its sheer beauty is simply magical and its towers can be seen from all around the city.

The Norman cathedral was begun in 1072, and parts from this period can be seen at the west end of the building, where three elaborate portals are surmounted by an exquisite sculptured frieze from 1145. Mostly the cathedral is Gothic in style, and much of the church dates to after an earthquake of 1185. It has been little altered since this time.

The choir was rebuilt in 1192, this was followed by the rebuild of the western part of the church. The Angel choir, so called for its magnificent decoration and huge expanses of stained glass, was added between 1256-80. There-after only minor additions were made.

The emergence of mixed martial arts as a fighting system (working on the assumption that we accept this mixed martial arts as a distinct fighting system like Karate or Jiu Jitsu) has led to debate about whether it is the best system for self defense.

Certainly, in respect of the techniques that we train in mixed martial arts, and the attributes that we develop in our drilling and sparring, it is the closest that we will get to train and spar at a safe contact level with methods that will be effective in a real street fight.

However, as with all systems of martial arts it is still training for a controlled fight scenario that the combatants have both agreed to and prepared for. There are also rules that forbid us using the most effective weapons against the most debilitating targets, and a referee to enforce them. We must, however, compliment this with components that address those areas that occur in the self defense situation but are not adequately prepared for when learning mixed martial arts. I would also add that these areas should be addressed in all martial art systems that want to responsibly provide their followers with an effective self defense methodology.

1)         Develop street awareness skills that teach you and your students how to recognize potential danger so that you can either avoid them or be prepared to deal with them.

2)         Develop a "non-victim" mind-set and body posture so that a potential attacker identifies you as a dangerous target and that they would be better seeking out another victim.

3)         Include adrenal stress training so that you do not "freeze" when a potential assailant "interviews" you. This is an aspect of self defense that the majority of martial arts schools do not address. The "butterflys in the stomach" effect before a mixed martial arts or Muay Thai match is similar but not the same as here the fight conditions are not controlled and the effect of adrenal stress can be much greater.

4)         In addition to the fighting skills trained be sure and train eye gouges, palm heels, throat grabs, groin and knee strikes son that the confrontation can be dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.

5)         Develop effective strategies for standing back up if the fight goes to the ground and for dealing with multiple assailants – don't kid yourself this is tough even if you are a seasoned fighter.

6)         Street effective pre-emptive offensive "gap bridging" and broad-spectrum defensive cover techniques that enable you to engage the opponent with a high probability of establishing control.

In summary, mixed martial arts will provide you with a very effective technique and fight attribute base for self defense, however, you must compliment your training with self defense specific striking tools and a fear management psychological mind-set.

Most systems of martial arts will provide some degree of ability in self defense but only if they address the real conditions of a street situation and this pertains to whatever system you undertake when learning martial arts.

I did some research on this very subject a few days ago and here is what I found....The following is a list of vegetables of partial shade-tolerant vegetables. While productions may be greater in the sun, these plants will produce an edible crop when grown in a shady location. However, remember that nothing will grow in complete shade. Plants will need some morning, evening or filtered sun; a total of two to six hours of direct sun is the minimum.

In general, leafy vegetables are the most shade-tolerant, while those that fruit from a flower (tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplants) are the least. In between are the root vegetables requiring at least a half day of full sun: potatoes, beets, carrots and turnips. Shade tolerant leafy vegetables include lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, arugula, endive and radiccio. Broccoli (and its relatives -- kale, kohlrabi, turnips, mustard and cabbage -- also grow in partial shade.

The tradition continues even today and the modern beauties deem eye make up as the best way to heighten physical attractiveness. Hence, no matter what color or shape your eyes are, clever usage of eye make up can turn them to beauty assets, giving them greater depth and meaning.

Men and women alike require a foundation, concealer and blush/bronzer for any HDTV appearance. Women (and some men) will also need eye makeup and lip color.

Some of the most commonly used lasers to affect skin lightening include Quality-switched (Q-switched) lasers. Q-switch lasers vary in the amount of energy each laser emits and in their effect on the skin's pigment. Q-switched lasers include the Nd:YAG laser (wavelengths of 532 nm and 1064 nm), the alexandrite laser (755 nm) and a variable pulse Nd:YAG laser (532 nm).

Most yellow toned cosmetics have the most amazing eye colours, use the light shade on the entire eyelid, follow with a medium shade on lower part up to the crease, and blend the colours to create a natural look. To complete the look ,follow with a dark shade on the corner to create depth.

To apply blush stand in front of a mirror in a well lighted room and make a smiley face or suck in your cheeks (this is after your foundation has been applied of course!), use a soft blush brush and start from the ear line stopping at the apple of your cheek, 1-2 strokes with your brush should usually be enough as you do not want to over apply your blush even if it suits your skin tone, usually the more you apply the brighter it becomes.

Eyeliner

Unless you have dark skin do not wear black eyeliner. Black creates too great a contrast if you have paler skin. Experiment with a range of dark grey to light brown instead or try blending the eyeliner with a thin layer of eye shadow.

Green eyeshadow in reality reveals almost every eye color. Feel free to carry out experimentation on this by mixing the eyeshadow with different shade in the corners.

What I must point out here is we need sulfur to survive. Sulfur is a natural mineral that is as fundamental to life as water and salt are. It is the eighth most abundant chemical element in all life forms and the third most abundant mineral in your body. You cannot live without it. Sulfur is found in every cell in your body. Your body needs sulfur to create skin, hair, nails, muscles, bones, and teeth. Without sulfur, your body cannot regulate its blood sugar or transmit messages from one nerve cell to another. Your body also requires sulfur to digest, absorb fat, and to excrete cholesterol. Therefore, factors in your lifestyle and diet do affect the amount of sulfur that your body uses.
